Fourth of July Belated, Power Outage Part Deux

The Stahlmann foursome had a great Fourth. It has always been my favorite holiday; a belief instilled by my mother who observes her birthday on the Fourth. It has been exciting to include the kiddos in the festivities, and I am sure they will grow to love the holiday as much as me.

Stella and I went to see Ralph's World with some of my friends from work on the third. Ralph was once one of The Bad Examples, so his music is palatable to Mommy and kid friendly for Stella. It wasn't as crowded as last year, and Stella entertained herself by climbing in and out of Cooper's wagon or running away. She had a great time up at the pavilion and she danced her little booty shake dance with the other kids.

Following Ralph, we headed home for a much needed nap before the fireworks at Maine East. We had a huge group coming out, and we were planning to potluck before the event. Some folks brought bags out, so Stella did her best to disrupt their game. Nat enjoyed many cuddles and hugs from Mommy's and Grandma's chums.

Stella and Nat both loved the fireworks. Stella would turn and ask, "Mommy see it?" As if I hadn't noticed! Nat turned and watched the whole show without flinching once.

The next day, Stella and I headed to the parade in Des Plaines. It was way too long and hot for Nattie to bear it, so Daddy got to stay home in the air and hang- just dudes! Stella liked the marching bands, the cheerleaders, and enjoyed watching Sierra (Jack and Colleen's dog). It is amazing how much candy gets thrown at one-year-olds. Stella had a huge stash by the end, and is well aware that candy is a coveted item.

The evening of the Fourth, we caught the fireworks at Itasca with the Stahlmanns. It is a fantastic show, and we had some prime real estate. We were so close that we were showered in ash! I had never experienced this before. It was nuts. Stella sat with Granddad, and Jennie had Nat. I sat back and enjoyed the show.

In other news, I am currently writing this blog at Connie and Ian's, as our power is out yet again! It has been a wild summer, and we have already logged five nights on the air mattress over here due to power failure. Grandma and Granddad have been more than hospitable, and are keeping us well fed. I am enjoying the extra hands, and Stella just loves bossing Uncle David around. He dragged her back and forth across the house on a blanket at her request; she looked like an Egyptian queen for an hour.
